We just received this note from management:
Bill was a long time band member and we wish him all the best as he embarks on his new solo project, for which he's worked long and hard. He will have the time to devote to promoting his new record, and as we all move forward with our own endeavors, we wish him lots of good luck!

Bill I wish you very best. I have one of your first LP's and have so enjoyed it, but certainly hate to see you leave Chicago. You've written so many beautiful love songs for the band. I honestly can't imagine you not playing the key boards, chewing that gum and looking so serious on stage and coming down to do Look Away and You're Not Alone. My heart is heavy hearing this news.
You are a wonderful singer/song writer and I'll be one of the first to purchase the new CD.

I will really miss Bill. He became one of the main voices of Chicago. I wonder who is going to take his place? I know there was guy a few years ago that replaced him and sounded really good. We shall see, I will miss Bill.

So sorry to see you go, Bill - you've been an integral part and sound of Chicago for 28 years. You have become *an original* in my eyes! Good luck on your solo endeavor, you deserve it. I'll miss him. A great singer and performer, plus he wrote some great stuff for the band. I know he wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but I thought he was a great pick-up back in 1981, and the live vocal harmonies took a quantum leap forward live (in my opinion) when he showed up.

We'll miss you Bill. such a great and talented man. We'll miss your B3, we'll miss your guitar licks, we'll miss your vocals. More than half my history of this band is with you on the stage. I've followed you through the first days of the Sons to solo work, to picking up the gig with Chicago, and now back to solo. It's been quite a ride.
I can't wait to see what the coming years bring for your career  ..... best of luck, my friend. I'll see you in November.

I have to be honest and say I am shocked and saddened by this announcement, but I also completely understand. Bill - We wish you the best and we already have tickets for your show in Santa Cruz, California.

I think that's horrible news. In addition to being incredibly multi-talented, I think Bill (perhaps with Keith) had the main fire to MAKE music, to push the edges and grow and create — rather than simply coasting and replaying.
IOW, plug in the lyrics to "Plaid" here.
Sad news, to me. Can Chicago even attract a talent of anything even close to Bill's quality? Hope so; I've loved them since album II was new.

It will be very interesting to see where the band goes from here! I wonder how fans will react, as they finish up this final leg of the tour with EWF. I wish Bill all the best. He is an amazing talent, and will be greatly missed.
